Conjunction (0°)

Orb: 8° (luminaries 10°)

Two planets fused into a single voice — for better or worse.

Geometry

A conjunction is when two planets occupy the same point in the zodiac, within about 8 degrees of each other. They share a sign almost always (within an 8° orb, both planets are usually in the same 30° slice).

What it does

The conjunction is the most concentrated aspect. The two planets stop being separate forces and start acting as one. Whether that one voice is harmonious or noisy depends entirely on which planets are involved — Sun conjunct Jupiter is expansive optimism; Moon conjunct Saturn is moody seriousness; Venus conjunct Pluto is love that does not let go.

Example in a chart

Mercury conjunct Mars in a chart: thoughts and action are wired together. The native thinks by doing, debates fast, sometimes argues for sport. Slow people drive them up the wall.

When it forms in the current sky

Transiting conjunctions are reset moments. A Sun conjunct natal Saturn transit, for instance, brings the kind of reality check that resets the year's plans.
