♃Jupiter
Luck · growth · belief · excess
Rules: Sagittarius · Co-rules Pisces · Detriment in Gemini & Virgo
The planet of more. What you believe — and what you over-do.
Mythology
Zeus / Jupiter — king of the gods. The benefic, the planet of fortune. Also the planet of overreach: every Greek myth involving Zeus involves him taking it too far.
What it means in a chart
Jupiter expands whatever it touches. In Taurus: your appetite for comfort. In Virgo: your appetite for critique. The 'great benefic' label is half-right — what Jupiter gives generously can also be the same thing it makes you overdo. It's a 12-year cycle (~1 year per sign), called the Jupiter return at ~12, 24, 36, 48...
Retrograde
Jupiter retrogrades roughly 4 months out of every 13. Less dramatic than the personal-planet retrogrades — a season of inward growth and re-evaluating beliefs rather than external chaos.
How to read it in your chart
Jupiter sign = where you're naturally lucky and what you tend to exaggerate. Jupiter house = the life area where opportunities show up easily. The Jupiter return year is consistently one of the most 'lucky-feeling' years in a 12-year cycle.
